Activists Call for AI Freeze Outside OpenAI Office
Activists and students rallied in 50 US cities and college campuses on October 20 in a walkout demanding a freeze on AI development until the public and Congress set guardrails, KQED reports. In San Francisco, about two dozen protesters gathered outside OpenAI's Mission Bay office with signs reading "We Didn't Elect Big Tech" and "Water For People, Not Data Centers."
The rallies, including in Los Angeles, New York and Florida, were organised by Irreplaceable, a nonprofit launched in August by climate activists, civil rights leaders and national labor unions. Its executive director, Phil Aroneanu, previously co-founded the climate group 350.org.
The group's three-year plan is to build a base of Americans concerned about AI in 2026, develop a shared federal AI agenda in 2027 and launch a pressure campaign on politicians in 2028. It has not yet said what legislation it wants passed.

Tensordyne Napier: What If One Rack Could Do the Work of Nine?
Tensordyne
This Tensordyne whitepaper presents Napier, an inference-focused AI processor and rack-scale system based on the company’s TDN Math logarithmic number system. It examines infrastructure requirements for large mixture-of-experts and agentic models, compares major inference architecture approaches, and details the TDN AIP processor, TDN72 pod, TDN Link fabric, and Napier Ultra configuration. The paper reports simulation-based performance, cost, and accuracy-validation results, including Tensordyne’s projected comparison of one Napier rack with a nine-rack Nvidia Rubin plus Groq deployment; the chip is reported as taped out and in fabrication.
