American Electric Power, Amazon and X-energy will study a nuclear project with 960 MW of capacity at a former coal plant site in Sullivan County, Indiana, AEP said in a press release. AEP signed a joint development agreement with X-energy, while Amazon will support the work through a funding agreement.

The proposed facility would contain 12 Xe-100 small modular reactors, each with 80 MW of capacity. The companies are evaluating the former Breed Generating Station site, which is owned by AEP subsidiary Indiana Michigan Power.

If the project receives a final investment decision and enters operation, Amazon plans to buy its electricity under a long term contract. The contract would cover the facility's construction and operating costs for its duration.
