Android Creator Andy Rubin Launches Genki Robotics in Tokyo
Andy Rubin, the creator of Android and a former Google executive, has launched a new robotics startup called Genki Robotics in Tokyo. The company is focused on developing humanoid robots and is currently operating in stealth mode.
Genki Robotics has an office in Tokyo where a small team is working on prototypes. Rubin is reportedly seeking to expand the team by recruiting additional talent. The company does not yet have a public website or job postings.
Rubin confirmed that he is working on the robotics venture but did not provide further details. He previously led Google's robotics division, which pursued industrial and retail robot projects, and later founded Playground Global, an incubator supporting startups in robotics and AI.
Japan’s strong robotics ecosystem, including leading industrial robot manufacturers and university research programs, may provide a supportive environment for the new venture. Rubin’s past experience and Japan’s technical base position Genki Robotics within a competitive global field that includes companies developing humanoid robots in the U.S. and China.
