Anthropic Alerts Florida Police Over Alleged Threat in Claude Chat

Anthropic contacted local police after its monitoring software flagged a Claude conversation in which a woman allegedly threatened to shoot up a sheriff's office in Bonita Springs, Florida, according to Futurism.

The system sent the chat logs for review by an Anthropic employee, who determined the alleged plan was a credible threat. The company then informed police. Authorities arrested Carli Michelle Heller and charged her with making a written threat of violence, a second degree felony in Florida.

Lee County Sheriff Carmine Marceno said Heller admitted using Claude like a diary.
