Anthropic draft IPO filing shows $80 billion-plus first-half loss, WSJ reports

Anthropic recorded a net loss of more than $80 billion in the first half of 2026, the Wall Street Journal reported, citing a draft initial public offering prospectus, according to Reuters. That compares with a net loss of $13 billion in the same period a year earlier.

Most of the loss, $72 billion, came from accounting charges tied to changes in the value of convertible notes and other instruments the company issued to raise money, the Journal reported. Anthropic did not immediately respond to Reuters' request for comment.

Reuters previously reported, citing an investor at a pre-IPO meeting, that Anthropic's third quarter revenue rose 45% from the prior quarter to $16.8 billion. It also reported in September that Anthropic posted a $42 billion net loss in 2025 and plans to spend $518 billion on cloud, computing and infrastructure obligations in coming years.

The filing also shows first-half revenue of $16.3 billion, with two customers accounting for about a fifth of sales, and says Anthropic is struggling to secure enough cloud capacity from AWS, Google and Microsoft, which increasingly see it as a competitor, TechCrunch reported citing the WSJ. Anthropic believes it could spend more than $750 billion on cloud contracts and is also leasing its own data centers.
