APAC's Growing Role in AI Infrastructure Highlighted at OCP Summit

Aug 13, 2025
The Open Compute Project (OCP) APAC Summit in Taipei emphasized the Asia-Pacific region's increasing contributions to AI data center infrastructure, with Taiwan playing a pivotal role.

The Asia-Pacific region's expanding influence in AI infrastructure was a focal point at the Open Compute Project (OCP) APAC Summit held in Taipei on August 5, 2025. Announced in a press release, the summit highlighted the region's significant contributions to the development and deployment of open hardware technologies.

Cliff Grossner, Chief Innovation Officer at the OCP Foundation, noted that 30% of OCP's corporate members are now from APAC, with the region accounting for nearly 40% of OCP-certified data center-ready facilities. Grossner emphasized that APAC is not only participating but also leading in technical contributions, with 20% of OCP project contributions coming from APAC-based members.

Taiwan, in particular, was spotlighted for its central role in global tech manufacturing. DIGITIMES Chairman and CEO Colley Hwang highlighted Taiwan's infrastructure, which supports a vast network of factories and suppliers. Taiwan is responsible for 26% of US server imports and 40% of China's, with TSMC producing over 90% of the world's AI chips.

The summit underscored the region's urgent push to deploy scalable AI data center solutions, driven by government policies, hyperscaler investments, and hardware innovations. The OCP plans to return to Taipei in 2026, reflecting the region's growing importance in the global tech landscape.
