Apple Uses AI and 3D Printing to Build iPhone Duo Hinge
Apple Inc. unveiled the iPhone Duo in a press release, its first foldable iPhone. Its manufacturing process uses AI algorithms to match each hinge with the housing that provides the best fit.
A confocal laser scans the surface of every unit. Apple then uses 3D printing to apply up to 25 microscopic layers of a custom photopolymer, which removes remaining surface irregularities and improves alignment.
The iPhone Duo has a 7.6 inch inner display, a 5.4 inch outer display, a titanium body and an IP68 rating. It starts at $1,999, with preorders opening October 16 and availability beginning October 23.
