ARPA-H Awards UpDoc Up to $9.2 Million for Clinical AI
UpDoc said in a press release that ARPA-H selected it as a lead performer in the ADVOCATE program, with an award of up to $9.2 million. Microsoft, OpenAI and NVIDIA are supporting the UpDoc led team. ADVOCATE has more than one lead performer: Atman Health announced a separate award under the same program on the same day.
The program will run for 39 months in multiple phases. It will develop and test an autonomous clinical AI system for cardiovascular disease and heart failure, covering medication, diet and exercise management under physician oversight and clinical safeguards.
Planned work includes independent testing, comparisons with cardiologists, FDA Investigational Device Exemption trials and deployment at large health systems with electronic health record integration. The new system has not received FDA clearance, and participation in later program phases depends on competitive milestone reviews.
