Avast Survey Finds 52% Share or Consider Sharing Sensitive Data With AI Tools

Avast said in a press release that its 2026 Safe Tech Report surveyed 13,003 adults across 12 markets from May 22 to June 19. The report found that 56% of respondents were confident they could recognize a fake generated by AI, while 52% had shared or considered sharing at least one sensitive item with an AI tool.

One in five respondents had shared or considered sharing a CV with an AI chatbot. The same percentage reported sharing or considering sharing a work document.

When encountering suspected scams, 41% delete the message or content without telling anyone, while 20% investigate it independently. Among respondents who consume true crime style scam content, 57% said it makes them more alert and 53% said it makes them more suspicious of messages and offers.
