AWS Opens Trainium Chips to Existing PyTorch Code

Amazon Web Services introduces TorchNeuron, a tool that lets developers run existing PyTorch code on Trainium chips with a configuration change instead of a rewrite, as detailed in an Amazon blog post. AWS will release the software under the Apache 2.0 license at PyTorch Conference North America on October 20.

TorchNeuron uses the standard PyTorch mechanism for registering hardware, allowing existing testing, debugging, and scaling tools to work with Trainium. It supports Trainium2 and Trainium3, and integrates with the TorchTitan distributed training framework and Fully Sharded Data Parallelism.

Hugging Face has added native Trainium support to its development tools without requiring Amazon specific code. AWS says it tests each TorchNeuron build against hundreds of thousands of AI models.
