Bank of America brought in about 1,000 contractors to fix software vulnerabilities found by frontier AI models including Anthropic's Mythos, alongside about 3,000 internal staff.

Bank of America brought in about 1,000 external contractors in the second quarter of 2026 to fix software vulnerabilities uncovered by frontier AI models, including Anthropic's Mythos, according to Crowdfund Insider. CEO Brian Moynihan disclosed the figure in a CNBC interview after the bank's third quarter results on October 14. The contractors work alongside about 3,000 internal technical staff.

The flaws affected both the bank's own code and software from outside vendors. The contractors were engaged as consultants, are not counted in permanent headcount, and remain on site.

Moynihan told analysts that third quarter costs included "a couple hundred million plus" for the software remediation together with separate anti money laundering compliance work. He said the software work should taper once the initial backlog of patches is cleared. Anthropic made a preview of Mythos available in April to a limited group of banks, technology companies and government agencies through Project Glasswing.
