Bioness Adds OneStep Smartphone Gait Analysis to Rehabilitation Devices

Bioness Medical and OneStep are adding smartphone based gait analysis to new L300 Go and PoNS purchases. The platform measures more than 30 mobility parameters in clinics and everyday settings.

Bioness Medical and OneStep announced a partnership to add smartphone based gait analysis to Bioness rehabilitation devices, according to a company press release. Access to OneStep will be included with every new L300 Go System or Portable Neuromodulation Stimulator purchase during the first phase.

OneStep uses smartphone sensors and AI to measure more than 30 gait and mobility parameters. Clinicians can use the platform during assessments and track how patients move outside clinics over time, including people with stroke, multiple sclerosis, traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury and cerebral palsy.

The companies say more than 300 patients were evaluated with the OneStep platform to measure the immediate effect of functional electrical stimulation on walking. They report that adults using the L300 Go Plus increased stride length by 5.9 centimeters and walking velocity from 0.68 to 0.74 meters per second, with changes also recorded in gait symmetry, variability and overall walk scores. The release gives no study design, control group or publication for that evaluation, and both the device and the measurement platform belong to the partners reporting it.
