ByteDance, Alibaba and Tencent Place $35 Billion in Nvidia GPU Orders
ByteDance, Alibaba Group and Tencent ordered more than 3 million RTX PRO 5500 graphics cards from Nvidia, with a combined list price above $35 billion, Reuters reports. The workstation chip complies with US export controls and is among the most powerful Nvidia processors available to Chinese buyers.
Nvidia told customers and partners it could not guarantee full delivery because Chinese demand exceeds planned production. The company indicated that partners might receive only 5% to 10% of requested quantities and that global production could be limited to 3 million cards in 2027. Total Chinese orders have surpassed 6 million units.
Chinese companies plan to use the cards mainly for AI inference. Nvidia expects to provide early samples in December, with commercial deliveries beginning in the first quarter of 2027.
