Center for Talent Innovation Warns AI Work Redesign Can Erode Skills

Center for Talent Innovation said in a press release that AI adoption and job redesign can remove tasks and roles that help workers build judgment, expertise and institutional knowledge. Its report, Borrowing from Tomorrow, describes the resulting gap between the capabilities an organization will need and those its operating model allows workers to develop and contribute.

The study found that two in five surveyed executives reported an expert understanding of their organization's strategic priorities for the next year. About 35% strongly understood workforce priorities, while 30% strongly understood their customer base. Among decision makers, 49% said a broad range of human perspectives and needs were considered sometimes, rarely or never in AI governance.

The research draws on a survey of 173 organizational decision makers, 44 interviews, executive meetings and earlier talent research. It proposes four areas for workforce planning: strategic coherence, distributed accountability, organizational depth perception and applied insight.
