China Proposes Global AI Cooperation Organization
China has proposed the establishment of a global organization to enhance cooperation on artificial intelligence, according to a report. This initiative was announced by Chinese Premier Li Qiang at the World Artificial Intelligence Conference in Shanghai. The proposal aims to position China as an alternative to the U.S. in the realm of AI governance.
Premier Li emphasized the need for a unified framework to govern AI, highlighting current fragmented regulations. He warned that without such cooperation, AI could become an "exclusive game" for a few countries and companies. Li also pointed out that bottlenecks in chip supplies and restrictions on talent exchange are hindering AI innovation.
China expressed its willingness to share its AI advancements, particularly with developing countries in the Global South. The proposal comes amid ongoing technological competition between China and the U.S., with both nations vying for leadership in AI technology.
