Crusoe Ends $1.25 Billion Boom Turbine Deal

Crusoe and Boom Supersonic ended a $1.25 billion agreement for 29 Superpower turbines that were due to begin arriving in 2027.

Crusoe ended its $1.25 billion agreement to buy 29 Superpower turbines from Boom Supersonic, according to TechCrunch. Deliveries of the 42 megawatt natural gas turbines had been due to begin in 2027.

Boom CEO Blake Scholl said turbines are no longer part of Crusoe's near term primary power plans for its Abilene campus and other sites. Boom still expects to deliver about 250 megawatts of Superpower capacity to other customers in 2027 and plans to reach 1 gigawatt in 2028.

Crusoe's initial 1.2 gigawatt Abilene data center uses grid power, with a gas turbine plant serving as backup. A separate 900 megawatt Abilene data center under construction for Microsoft will use gas turbines located on site.
