Didi Starts Fully Driverless R2 Robotaxi Trials in Beijing and Guangzhou
Didi Autonomous Driving announced in a press release that it has begun fully driverless service trials for its Robotaxi R2 in selected demonstration areas in Beijing and Guangzhou. The vehicle was jointly developed with GAC Aion and can be booked through the DiDi App.
R2 is built for Robotaxi services and is designed for global deployment. It uses DiDi Autonomous Driving's Level 4 software and hardware, 33 sensors, and a triple domain fusion central computing platform for perception and driving tasks.
The vehicle meets five star safety standards under C NCAP and Euro NCAP and includes a multi layer redundancy system. It has been used for public road testing in Guangzhou, Beijing, Shenzhen, and other cities since delivery in January.
The cabin includes expanded rear passenger space, adjustable seats, a 17.3 inch ceiling mounted screen, and an AI voice system. Riders can use voice commands for PIN verification, trip start, air conditioning, windows, and ambient lighting.
