Draup Report Links Higher Pay to Judgment as AI Automates Routine Tasks

Draup finds that judgment, domain expertise and communication command higher pay as AI handles more routine work across six professional roles.

Draup said in a press release that judgment, domain expertise and communication increasingly determine compensation as AI automates routine knowledge work. Its white paper analyzed millions of professional profiles, hundreds of thousands of active job postings and compensation data through July 2026.

The research covered data analysis, software engineering, product management, financial analysis, HR business partnering and supply chain analysis. Across the six roles, the top 10% of earners made 2.0 to 2.3 times as much as the bottom 10%, with the gap widening during the middle of workers' careers.

Common technical skills were far more prevalent than skills involving interpretation and decision making. SQL appeared in 316,011 Data Analyst profiles, while Data Storytelling appeared in 15,093. Among Supply Chain Analysts, execution skills outnumbered resilience skills by 294 to 1.

Demand for the roles remained steady, but requested skills changed. Monthly Data Analyst postings ranged from 19,000 to 27,000 during the past year, reaching 27,248 in March 2026. Employers increasingly requested Data Storytelling, Business Partnering, Courageous Conversations, Secure Coding and Supply Chain Resilience, while demand declined for MySQL, SSIS, SSRS, QlikView and routine ETL work.
