ECAM Highlights AI Video Monitoring for Energy Infrastructure Security
ECAM has detailed its approach to safeguarding critical energy sites using live video monitoring and AI detection technologies, announced in a press release. The company said these systems help energy and utility operators protect remote and unstaffed sites as copper theft and physical attacks on U.S. grid infrastructure continue to rise.
According to industry data cited by ECAM, copper theft costs U.S. utilities about one billion dollars annually. The North American Electric Reliability Corporation’s E-ISAC reported over 3,500 physical security incidents across the grid in 2025. ECAM said its monitoring approach focuses on detection and verified human response to prevent damage and disruption.
The company combines AI-based analytics with continuous live monitoring by trained specialists. When suspicious activity is detected, operators can trigger live audio warnings and contact law enforcement or security personnel before losses occur. ECAM’s Mobile Surveillance Units, which can include solar power and built-in connectivity, are designed for quick deployment at off-grid sites such as substations and renewable energy projects.
ECAM has worked with a major U.S. electric utility serving about 15 million customers to mitigate theft and strengthen substation protection. The company’s systems aim to help utilities shift from reviewing incidents after the fact to preventing them across substations, energy storage facilities, and other essential infrastructure.
