Elon Musk Details Tesla’s In-House AI Chip Roadmap and Hiring Push
Elon Musk has revealed new details about Tesla, Inc.’s in-house AI chip program, stating that the company has already designed and deployed several million AI chips across its vehicles and data centers. These chips form the foundation of Tesla’s artificial intelligence systems used for autonomous driving and robotics.
The current chip generation used in Tesla cars is AI4, while the AI5 version is nearing completion. Work has also begun on AI6. Musk said Tesla’s goal is to bring a new AI chip design to production every 12 months and ultimately build chips in higher volumes than all other AI chip producers combined.
Tesla has opened a dedicated hiring channel for AI silicon engineers, inviting candidates to demonstrate exceptional ability in chip design. The company is particularly interested in applicants skilled at applying advanced AI methods to hardware development. This effort comes as competition among automakers and technology firms intensifies over custom silicon for autonomous systems and robotics.
