Enigma Raises $70 Million for Online Robot Control Experiment
Enigma has emerged from stealth with a $70 million seed round led by Index Ventures and Ribbit Capital, with participation from Conviction Partners founder Sarah Guo, according to The Next Web.
The robotics research lab is launching a public experiment that lets people online control more than 100 proprietary robots housed in hangars in Israel and California. The robots can draw with paintbrushes, fight with swords, and perform simple chemistry tasks by picking up and mixing flasks.
Enigma says it built the robotic arms and their underlying models from scratch. The company plans to test different ways for people to interact with the robots, including text, voice, video demonstrations, and tap, drag, and drop controls.
The company was founded by Jonathan Jacobi and Gal Niv, who met through hacking competitions and later served in Israel's Unit 8200. Jacobi declined to name specific business uses, but said Enigma is working with companies in healthcare, logistics, and entertainment.
