Fermi America Partners with Hyundai E&C for Nuclear AI Grid
Fermi America has partnered with Hyundai Engineering & Construction to develop the nuclear component of what is planned to be the world's largest private grid for next-generation AI, announced in a press release. This collaboration involves a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to jointly design and execute the delivery of nuclear power within the grid, which will also include combined-cycle natural gas, solar power, and battery energy storage.
Hyundai E&C brings extensive experience to the project, having completed 22 nuclear projects globally, including the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant in the UAE. The partnership aims to expedite timelines for the grid's development, leveraging Hyundai's proven track record in nuclear construction. The project is expected to deliver up to 11 gigawatts of power, integrating various energy sources to support advanced AI technologies.
The MOU outlines the joint planning of a nuclear-based hybrid energy project, including feasibility studies and basic design phases. Construction on the nuclear power complex is slated to begin next year, with the first reactor anticipated to be operational by 2032.
