Finance teams spend 26% of week checking AI output

Oct 6, 2026
A Datarails survey of 270 finance leaders found that teams spend 26% of their working week verifying or correcting AI output, while few trust AI to prepare financial reports without human review.

Datarails said in a press release that finance teams spend 26% of their working week verifying or correcting AI output. The July 2026 survey covered 270 CFOs and finance leaders at US organizations with more than 1,000 employees and at least $100 million in annual revenue.

All respondents reported using AI for finance processes, while 96% said they spend at least 10% of their work time checking its output. Only 5% trust AI to produce board ready financial reports without human review, and 4% trust it with the month end close. Lack of auditability was a concern for 75%, followed by accuracy and hallucinations at 71%.

The survey found that 60% are moving staff to other work as AI handles more routine tasks, while 3% are cutting finance positions because of AI. Fifty three percent plan to expand AI licenses over the next year, although 32% said their organizations exceeded AI budgets by at least 10% during the past year.
