Getty Images' Copyright Lawsuit Against Stability AI Begins in UK
Getty Images has initiated a landmark copyright lawsuit against Stability AI at London's High Court, potentially setting a precedent for AI-related copyright law, according to Reuters. The Seattle-based photo provider accuses Stability AI of unlawfully using its images to train the Stable Diffusion system, which generates images from text inputs.
Getty Images claims that Stability AI scraped millions of images from its websites without permission to develop its AI model. Stability AI, which has received significant funding, including investment from WPP, denies any infringement, arguing that its tools promote innovation and artistic freedom.
This case is one of several ongoing legal battles concerning the use of copyrighted material to train AI models. Legal experts suggest that the outcome could significantly impact copyright law and influence government policy on AI development.
