Google and Warby Parker Partner to Develop AI Glasses
Google has committed $150 million to partner with Warby Parker in developing AI-powered smart glasses, as announced during Google I/O 2025. The collaboration aims to create eyewear that integrates multimodal AI, capable of processing text, audio, video, and images, with both prescription and non-prescription lenses.
Initially, Google has invested $75 million towards Warby Parker's product development and commercialization efforts. An additional $75 million will be invested as an equity stake, contingent on Warby Parker meeting specific milestones. The smart glasses will operate on the Android XR platform, designed for headsets and glasses, and are expected to launch after 2025.
This partnership is part of Google's broader strategy to enter the smart glasses market, following similar successful collaborations like Meta's partnership with Ray-Ban. The new line of glasses aims to enhance user experience by providing real-time context and intelligence, augmenting the wearer's surroundings as they move through the world.
