Groq Deploys AI Infrastructure at Equinix Data Center in Sydney
Groq has deployed its AI infrastructure in an Equinix data center in Sydney, marking its first presence in the Asia-Pacific region, reports Data Center Dynamics. The installation uses 4.5 megawatts of capacity and leverages Equinix Fabric for interconnection services.
The facility, located in Equinix’s largest Sydney data center, houses 7,776 of Groq’s custom Language Processing Units (LPUs), which the company says deliver faster and more cost-effective AI inference compared to traditional GPUs. This deployment is part of Groq’s global expansion strategy to bring its AI inference technology closer to users in the region.
Customers in Asia-Pacific can now access Groq’s inference services through GroqCloud with reduced latency. According to the company, about half of its two million users are based in the region. Groq’s CEO Jonathan Ross said the expansion aims to improve global compute accessibility, while Equinix’s Asia-Pacific president Cyrus Adaggra highlighted the partnership’s role in enabling efficient enterprise AI workflows.
Groq already operates in data centers across the U.S., Canada, Europe, and the Middle East, including a previous deployment with Equinix in Helsinki. The company plans to further expand its network with additional data centers in 2026.
