Hall Lidar Unveils AI-Based Acoustic Drone Detection System
Hall Lidar Inc. has launched its first-generation acoustic drone detection system, the UDL-64, announced in a press release. The system delivers real-time 3D situational awareness using AI-based acoustic sensing to detect drones without relying on RF signals, GPS, or visual input.
The UDL-64 operates covertly, emitting no signals and remaining undetectable to adversaries. It identifies drones through their unique rotor sound signatures, which cannot be spoofed or masked like electronic signals. A single unit can detect drones up to 200 meters away, while multiple units networked together extend coverage to about 500 meters.
At its core, the system features a dense microphone array with edge-based AI processing that applies beamforming techniques to isolate and track aerial threats. It can classify drones in real time while filtering out background noise from wind, vehicles, or urban environments. Optional optical modules allow for visual confirmation of detected targets.
The compact, weather-resistant device measures approximately 24 inches in diameter and can be deployed in fixed or mobile setups. It supports power from batteries, solar panels, or external sources, and integrates through Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, or 5G into broader command-and-control systems. The UDL-64 is fully designed and manufactured in the United States, aligning with federal security and procurement standards.
