Hitachi and X LABS to Build Gigawatt Energy Parks for AI Data Centers in North America
Hitachi and X LABS announced in a press release a collaboration to develop gigawatt scale energy parks in North America. These facilities will serve as dedicated power supply hubs for AI data centers, integrating power generation, storage, transmission, and energy management systems.
The energy parks will operate as behind the meter infrastructure, enabling data center operators to procure stable and controllable power without waiting for grid reinforcement. The projects will be structured through Special Purpose Vehicles managed by X LABS, which will handle financing, site selection, and development.
Hitachi will provide transmission and distribution technologies and grid stabilization capabilities, while X LABS will lead investment and project management. The companies plan to complete the first energy park in the early 2030s, offering Energy as a Service to clients seeking large scale, reliable power for AI operations.
