House Democrats Introduce Resolution Opposing AI Company Bailouts
House Financial Services Committee Democrats and other Democratic lawmakers introduced a resolution opposing federal bailouts for insolvent AI companies, according to a congressional press release. Representatives Maxine Waters and Greg Casar led the resolution, joined by 11 other House Democrats.
The resolution opposes emergency lending, direct capital infusions and other federal measures intended to keep insolvent AI companies operating outside ordinary bankruptcy proceedings. It also calls for executives responsible for reckless or illegal conduct to face civil and criminal accountability and return improperly obtained assets.
The lawmakers say AI related firms hold trillions of dollars in debt, including financing from private credit markets with limited transparency. The resolution calls for federal spending to support jobs and public services, stronger unemployment and housing assistance, protection for pension and retirement funds, and additional financial transparency requirements.
