Huawei Forecasts AI Agents Will Account for Over 90% of Traffic by 2035
Huawei announced in a press release two reports covering AI infrastructure priorities through 2035 and the economic value of digital investment. The company forecasts that annual token consumption will increase 100,000 fold by 2035, with AI agents accounting for more than 90% of traffic.
The Intelligent World 2035 report identifies ten areas of focus, including general AI capabilities, larger computing clusters, new memory systems, an operating system for agents, intelligent devices, autonomous driving, data center power and cooling, and security for autonomous agents. Huawei proposes infrastructure spanning token generation, delivery, use and security, while predicting a 100 fold increase in computing cluster scale and a 1,000 fold reduction in the cost of agent tasks.
Huawei and the Institute of Economics at Tsinghua University also released the Global Digitalization and Intelligence Index 2026. It estimates that AI will generate more than $27 trillion in cumulative economic value over the next five years and that investment in digital and intelligent infrastructure will exceed $4 trillion by 2030. The index assesses 90 countries and groups them as Builders, Adopters or Frontrunners.
