Hyosung Targets US AI Power Market With 22.9kV Transformer

September 07, 2026
Hyosung Heavy Industries plans to pursue US AI and data center power projects with a 22.9kV solid state transformer that can connect directly to urban distribution networks.

Hyosung Heavy Industries said in a press release that it developed a 22.9kV, 1.05MVA class solid state transformer, which it calls the first of its kind. The company plans to pursue opportunities in the US AI and data center power market.

Developed in 2022, the transformer can connect directly to urban distribution networks. It uses power semiconductors to control voltage and current while providing the insulation functions of a conventional transformer.

Hyosung has invested $300 million to acquire and expand a transformer manufacturing facility in Memphis, Tennessee. It also formed a joint venture with Quanta Services to produce 72.5kV to 800kV circuit breakers in Pennsylvania.
