Hyundai Activates Autonomous Driving Data Flywheel

Hyundai Motor Group has activated a system that continuously collects driving data, trains and validates AI models, and deploys updates. The group targets Level 2+ production in the first half of 2028 and plans a Level 4 pilot in Gwangju by the end of 2026.

Hyundai Motor Group said in a press release that its autonomous driving Data Flywheel is fully operational. The system continuously collects real world driving data, trains and validates AI models, and deploys updates.

The group plans Level 2+ production using solutions from NVIDIA in the first half of 2028, followed by Level 2++ in the second half. Vehicles using the proprietary Atria AI platform are scheduled to reach Level 2++ production in the second half of 2029.

Hyundai Motor, Kia, 42dot, and Motional are standardizing sensors and combining autonomous driving systems. The Data Flywheel will use information collected through the group's Data Union framework and its annual sales of about 7 million vehicles.

Hyundai also plans a Level 4 pilot in Gwangju by the end of 2026 with South Korea's Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport. The pilot will provide validation data, while 42dot continues road testing models that combine visual inputs with language based reasoning.
