IBM Launches Defense-Focused AI Model Built with Janes
IBM announced in a press release the general availability of the IBM Defense Model, an AI system created with Janes to provide defense and national security organizations with mission-specific intelligence in secured settings.
The model integrates IBM's enterprise-grade AI technology with Janes’ open-source defense data to deliver insights for mission planning, decision support, and analysis. Built on IBM’s Granite foundation models and accessible through watsonx.ai, it can operate in air-gapped, classified, and edge environments.
According to IBM, the Defense Model is trained on military doctrine and domain-specific data to interpret real-time information, reducing hallucinations and improving relevance for defense use cases. Key applications include defense planning, analyst reporting, document enrichment, wargaming, and simulation.
The system supports continuous intelligence updates through integration with Janes’ dynamic defense data and is designed to meet high security and governance standards, including ISO 42001 certification for AI governance.
