Igor Babuschkin, co-founder of xAI, has announced his departure from the company to start a new venture capital firm, Babuschkin Ventures. Babuschkin shared the news in a post on X, reflecting on his journey with xAI and his future plans.

Babuschkin, who played a pivotal role in building xAI into a leading AI model developer, is now focusing on supporting AI safety research and backing startups that aim to advance humanity. His decision to launch Babuschkin Ventures was inspired by discussions with Max Tegmark, founder of the Future of Life Institute, about the safe development of AI systems.

The departure follows a series of controversies at xAI, including issues with its AI chatbot Grok.
