Illuminant Surgical Raises $8.4 Million to Launch Skylight Clinical Guidance Platform
Illuminant Surgical has raised $8.4 million in seed funding to accelerate the launch of its Skylight platform, announced in a press release. The round was led by Wing 2 Wing Ventures with participation from the U.S. National Science Foundation, the National Cancer Institute, the National Institute on Aging, Elderberry Ventures, Soma Capital, DRF, and other investors.
Skylight is a projection-based clinical guidance platform that provides doctors with a heads-up display of a patient's internal anatomy directly on the body. The system does not require headsets, goggles, or external monitors, and is designed to offer millimeter-level accuracy for procedures such as spine surgeries and cancer biopsies.
The platform integrates two proprietary technologies called SkinMatch and LightScreen. These systems aim to improve surgical precision and efficiency while reducing the frequency of revision surgeries and missed diagnoses that cost the U.S. healthcare system billions annually.
Illuminant Surgical is led by a team of Stanford-trained engineers and medical technology specialists with backgrounds in computer vision and hardware development. The company plans to use the funding to bring Skylight to market and advance its clinical applications.
