Kodama Systems Raises $7 Million for Forestry Automation
Kodama Systems raised a $7 million seed round to expand its forestry automation technology, according to AgFunderNews. Konvoy Ventures and Breakwater Ventures led the round, which brought the California startup's total funding to $14 million.
Kodama equips skidders with supervised autonomy and remote operation systems. Its hardware includes NVIDIA computing equipment, eight cameras, two LiDAR sensors, Starlink and GPS. The company says a retrofit takes one to one and a half days.
Machines using the technology moved more than 100,000 tons of timber in commercial logging operations across the southeastern US during the past six months. Kodama plans to use the funding to expand operations and develop systems that let one remote operator control multiple machines.
Logging contractors pay a daily or monthly fee for the service. Workers still need to refuel and grease the diesel machines at logging sites.
