LibreOffice Keeps AI Out of Default Installation

Oct 7, 2026
LibreOffice will exclude AI from its default installation for the foreseeable future, keeping document processing local and available without a network connection.

The Document Foundation will keep AI out of the default LibreOffice installation for the foreseeable future, according to TechCrunch. The organization says the policy keeps documents on the user's device and allows the software to work without a network connection.

LibreOffice currently has no AI integration that meets its requirements for local data processing and independence from a single provider. The decision is not a permanent rejection of AI and could change if suitable technology becomes available.

Users who want AI features can install extensions that connect LibreOffice to local AI models. The default software will continue to contain no generative AI features.

Tensordyne Napier: What If One Rack Could Do the Work of Nine?

Tensordyne

This Tensordyne whitepaper presents Napier, an inference-focused AI processor and rack-scale system based on the company’s TDN Math logarithmic number system. It examines infrastructure requirements for large mixture-of-experts and agentic models, compares major inference architecture approaches, and details the TDN AIP processor, TDN72 pod, TDN Link fabric, and Napier Ultra configuration. The paper reports simulation-based performance, cost, and accuracy-validation results, including Tensordyne’s projected comparison of one Napier rack with a nine-rack Nvidia Rubin plus Groq deployment; the chip is reported as taped out and in fabrication.
