Lightspeed Venture Partners is seeking $250 million for a new fund focused on early stage AI companies in India and Southeast Asia, according to TechCrunch. Lightspeed India Partners V has secured commitments for 80% of its target, based on an investor letter.

The fund will be half the size of its $500 million predecessor from 2022. Lightspeed plans to begin investing from it within two months and expects an investment period of about two and a half years.

The firm will also align fundraising for its India funds with the cycle used for its global funds. Lightspeed's existing India investments include Sarvam AI, while its global AI portfolio includes Anthropic, xAI and Databricks.
