Memorial Hermann Uses Epic AI to Explain Test Results

Memorial Hermann clinicians are using Epic's Art assistant to draft clear explanations of laboratory and imaging results. The health system reports fewer follow up messages and modest time savings for clinicians.

Memorial Hermann Health System is using Art, an AI assistant from Epic Systems Corporation, to draft patient explanations of laboratory and imaging results, the health system announced in a press release. The tool generates an initial note in clear language within Epic's In Basket, which clinicians review, edit and personalize before sending.

Memorial Hermann reported 32% fewer follow up messages about test results when clinicians started with an Art draft. Care teams have used the tool to write more than 55,000 patient messages, saving clinicians an average of nine seconds per result comment.

The health system piloted the feature at its innovation clinic in December 2025 before expanding it across the organization.
