Meta Launches Super PAC to Influence AI Regulation in California
Meta is set to launch a new super PAC named Mobilizing Economic Transformation Across California, aimed at supporting candidates who advocate for a light-touch approach to AI regulation. The company plans to invest tens of millions of dollars in this initiative, focusing on candidates from both parties who oppose stringent AI rules.
The super PAC will play a significant role in the upcoming 2026 governor's race in California, a state known for its active stance on AI and social media regulation. Meta's move is part of a broader strategy to influence state-level policies that could impact its business operations and technological advancements.
Brian Rice, Meta's Vice President of Public Policy, will lead the PAC alongside Greg Maurer. The initiative follows Meta's previous lobbying efforts against bills like SB 53, which proposed safety and transparency standards for AI developers. By establishing its own PAC, Meta aims to directly fund campaigns and potentially shape the political landscape in favor of AI innovation.
