Michael Dell Calls for Government Role in AI Safeguards
Dell Technologies CEO Michael Dell says AI models need safeguards and controls, and that government has a role to play, according to CNBC. He also said companies building AI tools should set bounded permissions.
Dell did not specify what government oversight should involve, noting that he is not a policymaker. His comments follow a Sept. 29 White House lunch at which AI executives signed a "morally binding" document to self-regulate their products' safety with the help of outside evaluators, CNBC notes.
Dell also addressed opposition to data centers, calling the more active discussion about them "a good thing" and saying there are things the industry can do to make systems more efficient and reduce energy consumption. "I don't see it as a big impediment to 2027," he said.
