NIST Expands AI Consortium and Invites New Members
The National Institute of Standards and Technology has expanded the scope of its artificial intelligence consortium and is inviting new members to participate, according to HPCwire. The group, previously known as the AI Safety Institute Consortium, has been renamed the NIST Artificial Intelligence Consortium to reflect its broader mission.
The consortium will now focus on AI measurement, innovation, and adoption. It will work on building an AI evaluation ecosystem, investing in AI enabled scientific research, and promoting the use of AI technology developed in the United States. Six task groups will lead these efforts, including those focused on AI testing and validation, risk assessment, evaluation methods, documentation standards, bias and generative AI limitations, and chemical and biological security.
NIST is seeking letters of interest from technically capable organizations to join the consortium. New members will enter into Cooperative Research and Development Agreements with the agency, while existing members can continue by signing an amendment acknowledging the organizational changes. Details on participation are available on the consortium’s project website and in the Federal Register notice.
