Nscale Adds Fidji Simo to a Board Built for Scale
Nscale appointed Fidji Simo to its board as an independent director with immediate effect, the company said in a press release.
Simo most recently served as CEO of AGI Deployment at OpenAI, leading the business and product teams responsible for bringing its research to users, and the release says she continues to serve as an adviser there. Before OpenAI she was CEO and chair of Instacart, taking it to profitability and through its 2023 public listing, and before that spent a decade at Meta running the Facebook app. She sits on Shopify's board.
Her appointment follows Sheryl Sandberg, Susan Decker and Nick Clegg joining the Nscale board earlier this year. Founded in 2024 and headquartered in London, Nscale designs, builds and operates AI data centres and sells GPU cloud services, with sites in Norway, the United Kingdom and the United States.
The board is the story rather than the person. Nscale has now assembled directors who have taken companies public and run platforms at scale, and chief executive Josh Payne's stated reason for choosing them is the independence, financial rigour and operating depth a company at this stage needs. Press reports have tied the appointment to an expected listing this autumn. Nscale's own announcement does not mention one.
