Nvidia and Google DeepMind Collaborate with Disney on Robotic Innovations
Nvidia is collaborating with Disney Research and Google DeepMind to develop Newton, a physics engine designed to simulate robotic movements in real-world settings. This collaboration was announced by Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang at GTC 2025, according to TechCrunch. Disney plans to use Newton to power its next-generation entertainment robots, including Star Wars-inspired BDX droids.
Nvidia intends to release an early, open-source version of Newton later in 2025. The engine aims to make robots more expressive and capable of handling complex tasks with greater precision. It will be compatible with Google DeepMind's ecosystem of robotic development tools, including the MuJoCo physics engine.
In addition to Newton, Nvidia unveiled Groot N1, an AI foundation model for humanoid robots, and shared plans for its next-gen AI chips at the conference. The collaboration with Disney and Google DeepMind is expected to play a significant role in advancing Disney's entertainment robots.
