Nvidia, Microsoft, BlackRock, and xAI to Acquire Aligned Data Centers for $40 Billion
A consortium of investors including NVIDIA, Microsoft Corporation, BlackRock, and xAI has agreed to acquire Aligned Data Centers from Macquarie Asset Management in a transaction valued at $40 billion. The purchase represents one of the largest data center acquisitions to date.
The group is acting through the Artificial Intelligence Infrastructure Partnership (AIP), which was established in 2024 by BlackRock, MGX, Microsoft, and Nvidia to accelerate global investment in AI infrastructure. The Kuwait Investment Authority, xAI, and Temasek have joined the partnership as additional participants.
Aligned operates a network of approximately 80 data centers across North and South America, with more than 5 gigawatts of operational and planned capacity. The company will maintain its headquarters in Dallas, Texas, and continue under the leadership of CEO Andrew Schaap.
The acquisition is AIP’s first major investment and aligns with its plan to deploy $30 billion in equity capital for AI-related infrastructure. The deal is expected to close in the first half of 2026, subject to regulatory approvals and customary closing conditions.

Tensordyne Napier: What If One Rack Could Do the Work of Nine?
Tensordyne
This Tensordyne whitepaper presents Napier, an inference-focused AI processor and rack-scale system based on the company’s TDN Math logarithmic number system. It examines infrastructure requirements for large mixture-of-experts and agentic models, compares major inference architecture approaches, and details the TDN AIP processor, TDN72 pod, TDN Link fabric, and Napier Ultra configuration. The paper reports simulation-based performance, cost, and accuracy-validation results, including Tensordyne’s projected comparison of one Napier rack with a nine-rack Nvidia Rubin plus Groq deployment; the chip is reported as taped out and in fabrication.
