OpenAI is reportedly considering the acquisition of io Products, an AI hardware startup co-founded by former Apple design lead Jony Ive and OpenAI CEO Sam Altman. According to The Information, the potential deal could be valued at around $500 million.

io Products, which has received funding from Laurene Powell Jobs's Emerson Collective, is focused on developing AI-enabled devices that aim to be less socially disruptive than the iPhone. The startup's team includes former Apple designers and is reportedly working on various smart home gadgets.

While acquisition talks are ongoing, OpenAI may also consider partnering with io Products instead of a full acquisition. The collaboration could leverage the expertise of both companies in creating innovative AI hardware solutions.
