OpenAI Invests $12 Billion in CoreWeave for AI Infrastructure
OpenAI has entered into a significant five-year agreement with CoreWeave, valued at $11.9 billion, to enhance its AI infrastructure capabilities. This move was announced in a press release by CoreWeave, which will provide dedicated compute capacity for OpenAI's model training and services.
As part of the deal, OpenAI will receive $350 million worth of CoreWeave stock through a private placement. This strategic partnership is expected to bolster CoreWeave's position ahead of its anticipated IPO, where it aims for a valuation exceeding $35 billion.
CoreWeave, backed by Nvidia, operates a cloud platform optimized for AI workloads, featuring a network of data centers equipped with Nvidia GPUs. This agreement not only expands OpenAI's compute resources but also diversifies CoreWeave's customer base, which previously relied heavily on Microsoft for revenue.
The collaboration marks a notable shift in the dynamics between OpenAI and Microsoft, as OpenAI continues to expand its infrastructure partnerships beyond its existing deals with Microsoft and Oracle.
