OpenAI and Synopsys Develop GPT-Synopsys for Chip Design

Synopsys and OpenAI announced in a press release a multi year partnership to develop GPT-Synopsys, a specialized model for semiconductor design. OpenAI will license Synopsys electronic design automation tools to develop the model, while the agreement includes shared revenue and joint customer distribution.

GPT-Synopsys will operate Synopsys tools, interpret their output, modify designs, and repeat workflows for engineer review. It will support tasks including power, performance, and area optimization, timing, and verification.

The model will run on infrastructure hosted by OpenAI and integrate with Synopsys.ai and Synopsys Autopilot. Synopsys says customer design data will not be used for model training and will be encrypted at rest and in transit. Early technical engagements with semiconductor customers are underway.
