OpenLight Secures $34M to Advance Photonics for AI Data Centers
OpenLight has raised $34 million in a Series A funding round, announced in a press release. The funding was co-led by Xora Innovation and Capricorn Investment Group, marking OpenLight's transition from a subsidiary of Synopsys to a venture-backed company.
OpenLight specializes in custom Photonic Application-Specific Integrated Circuit (PASIC) chip design and manufacturing, leveraging heterogeneous integration. The company's Process Design Kit (PDK) provides a library of passive and active components, including integrated lasers and modulators, validated by Tower Semiconductor. This enables rapid production and scaling of photonics technology for AI data centers.
The new funding will allow OpenLight to expand its PDK library and enhance its photonics components, such as its 400Gb/s modulator and indium phosphide integrated on-chip laser technology. The company plans to scale its operations and support customers transitioning to volume production over the next year.
