Photon raised $4.5 million in seed funding to develop tools for AI agents that operate through messaging services, according to TechCrunch. Gradient and A* led the round, with participation from Vercel, HongShan, Z Fellows, Llama Ventures, Karman, and angel investors.

The startup offers a unified API, channel framework, command line interface, and monitoring tools. Developers can use the platform to run agents across iMessage, WhatsApp, Telegram, SMS, RCS, email, and voice.

Photon says more than 40,000 developers have registered for its platform. It introduced a managed subscription service in April, while its open source version still represents 98% of use. The company says revenue grew tenfold in four months and messaging volume increased fivefold during the past month.
